CA reminder: instructions for oral presentations
On Tuesday 26/5 we are going to have the CA oral presentations. The final exam students do not have to attend but they are more than welcome to do so to support their fellow classmates.
Instructions for oral presentation structure:
1. Introduction (introduction of names, introduction of topic, importance of topic, attention grabber, and optionally a short preview of main points)
2. Presentation of one side of the issue under discussion
3. Presentation of another side of the issue under discussion
4. Personal opinion
(2, 3 and 4 need to be approximately equal in development)
5. Short conclusion (some ideas: positive thinking, call for action, quote, rhetorical question, poem extract)
6. References
Instructions for PPT
1. Show the introductory attention grabber in one slide
2. In all slides, use bullet points and PHRASES NOT LONG SENTENCES or paragraphs
3. Use little information on the slides and expand them orally
4. You can use pictures and colors but do not overdo it.
5. Use one slide for your conclusion
6. Avoid fancy transitions because they may not work on our smart screen.
Instructions for oral language
1. PLEASE use simple language (i.e. simple vocabulary NOT the vocabulary of your sources)
2. Use oral language i.e. you can use phrases, you can repeat the same expressions/vocabulary for emphasis, and you can use parallel structure and oral expressions
3. Use SHORT simple sentences (do NOT simply use the same sentences of your sources or those of the extended abstract. SIMPLIFY THEM)
4. Use friendly language
5. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, and time it well.
Bring the PPT file on a USB stick to class.
