CA reminder: information about oral presentations
- Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 2:59 PM -

This is to remind all CA students about what they have to do in their final oral presentations:

Talk about the same topic, the abstract and rationale of which you submitted and presented in class in the beginning of the semester.  i.e. you will present a topic from different perspectives and then present your opinion.

You need to use a ppt, which you will bring with you on an USB stick, which you will insert in the classroom smart screen. It MUST be in a ppt file or pdf not odt. The ppt points MUST be in the form of phrases and bullets and NOT complete long sentences or paragraphs. Do NOT read the ppt points, but expand them orally. The golden rule is show less than what you deliver orally.

Suggested ppt structure:

Slide 1: names and topic

Slide 2: attention grabber

Slide 3: rationale (and purpose: optional)

Slide 4 (optional): preview of main points

Slides 5-6: Perspective A of topic

Slides 7-8: Perspective B of topic

Slide 9: Your opinion of the topic

slide 10: conclusion

Slide 11: references

Length of presentation:

Individual presentations: 5 minutes

Pairs: 10 minutes

Groups of 3: 15 minutes

Advice:

Divide your time EQUALLY. Noone should speak more than anyone else. Rehearse reherase rehearse at home many times to learn your part by heart so that you DON'T READ script or slides.

Speak loudly, clearly, slowly, expressively.

All CA students should be present as listeners to everyone else's speeches. They should not only come for their own presentations.

 Good luck to all!
