The course aims to explore all aspects of international development, a field based on the fact that the level of economic development differs between countries.  Economic development is a concept encompassing economic, social, and cultural facets of life and it may be approached as the intertemporal evolution of institutions toward more complex forms that deal with both imperfections and uncertainties arising from the increasing complexity of exchange and distribution between markets and non-market actors. Development levels form the basis of the classification of countries as developed developing and less developed.  International development is a field dedicated to how countries evolve from one development category to another improving the living conditions of populations through the alleviation of poverty, the improvement of health care and sanitation, equality and human rights, education and housing.  Often it involves the engagement of international organizations, international donors, and aid organizations that undertake projects and organise programs to assist countries in dealing with specific problems.
