This module offers a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of international business, designed specifically for third-year undergraduate and Erasmus exchange students. It examines how firms operate across borders and how the global economic, political, technological, and cultural environment shapes international business strategy and performance.
Students explore key topics such as globalization and regional integration, foreign market entry strategies (exporting, licensing, franchising, joint ventures, and foreign direct investment), international trade theories, multinational enterprise (MNE) strategy, cross-cultural management, and the institutional environment of international markets. The course also addresses contemporary challenges including digitalization, global value chains, sustainability, geopolitical risk, and the role of emerging markets.
Through case studies, real-world examples, and interactive discussions, students develop analytical skills to evaluate international opportunities and risks, design market entry strategies, and understand the strategic decisions of firms operating in diverse institutional contexts. Particular attention is given to European and Southeast European business environments, reflecting the regional expertise of the University of Macedonia.
Assessment Structure:
The final grade is composed of:

40% from an International Business Plan assignment (either individual or group-based) and its in-class presentation.

60% from the final end-of-semester written examination.

The module combines lectures, case analysis, and applied coursework, providing Erasmus students with both academic rigor and practical insight into global business dynamics.
