The course is addressed to students of the department of Economics who wish to prepare for the IELTS exams.

It begins in the second week of the spring term.

Structure:

session 1- introduction about certificate components and assessment, online resources

session 2 - Test 1 (analysis of skills involved, focus on Listening, Essay type 2, Discursive)

session 3 - Test 1 pt 2 (analysis of skills involved, focus on Reading, Essay type 1, Graph description)

sessions 4- 13- on alternate weeks

week A- checking Reading and Listening (prepared as homework) + Speaking practice

week B- Writing: checking essays written. Speaking practice.

A few words about IELTS: The IELTS test is required for postgraduate studies by many universities abroad and in Greece.

Course structure and goals: The course will prepare students for the format of the test by providing strategies for addressing the specific test format. After the introductory sessions, students will have to prepare the practice tests from the IELTS Trainer themselves. The sessions will primarily focus on the writing, reading and speaking parts of the test (see lesson plan in the documents). One week we will deal with 2 Reading sections, Writing task 1 and Speaking practice and the next with the remaining Reading sections, Writing task 2 and further Speaking practice. We will explain strategies to use Listening only once, and will only return if required by students.
